Just replaced three model 5304 alarms that were 10 years old. Did this because of age. They worked fine for the 10 years.

December 4, 2023Replacement for 20 year old USI detectors
Didn't know I had to ever replace these but upon changing the battery on an original one that came with the house, it said 2004 and replace every 10 years. I ordered these as the new replacement for the old part number. Came as promised. I had to rewire the connection to fit the new plug design. Came with 9 volt batteries. 9 of the 10 went in smooth but the 10th one set off the other 9 after rewiring twice. I swapped it with the 9th one and it solved the problem. Not much else to say. I tested them and they beep. Hopefully good for another 10 years.

November 28, 2022Easy install but harness has to be changed
The fire alarms were very easy to install but the harness changed slightly between the 5204 and 5304 models. The mounting bracket also had to be replaced as they were slightly different. If everything was same, it would have been just unhook and plug-in.

The little suckers were tricky to twist-snap together once up on the ceiling. Sure would have been nice if the screws were included as well. Otherwise they units arrived timely and weren't very expensive for replacements.

Purchased this item to replace two units previously installed by the builder of our home and that had reached their lifes end. The units were extremely easy to install. Only had to change out the mounting plate.

AC powered smoke alarms with battery backup will chirp indefinitely assuming AC power is present; if battery power is low, or battery is removed; until a fresh battery is installed. Approved replacement batteries are listed on the back of each smoke alarm and in the user's manual.
Certain model smoke alarms with a silence button (designed to silence the alarm during a nuisance alarm) may chirp to indicate the smoke alarm is in the silence mode. The chirp will stop after approximately 8 minutes and the smoke alarm will return to its normal operation.
If battery backup alarms and non-battery backup alarms and accessories are mixed in an interconnect system, all devices without battery backup WILL NOT operate during an AC power failure.
CAUTION: USI alarms and accessories should only be interconnected with other USI alarms and accessories. Connecting devices from another manufacturer to USI devices may result in nuisance alarms, failure to alarm, or damage to one or all of the devices in the interconnect system. All interconnected USI alarms should be powered by the same fuse or circuit breaker. Smoke alarms shall not receive their power from a circuit that is protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter. Improper connection will result in damage to the alarm, failure to operate, or a shock hazard.

This smoke and fire alarm also features a quick activation pull-tab and a front-loading battery drawer for replacement without removing the alarm from the bracket. Mount the bracket to any standard wiring junction box and use the large mounting base to cover imperfections in drywall. The plastic dust cover protects the alarm from debris and (2) tamper-resistant locks prevent unwanted alarm or battery removal.
