I'm not sure about the foam in the bottom, but it's removable and the box is simple yet sturdy. I wouldn't want it any heavier for the size/purpose. Would be better if it were waterproof, or at least water resistant.

I bought this to replace the same model which I've used constantly for about ten years. The lock finally gave out fro what turned out to be constant use. It holds two back-up disks, my birth certificate and other important ID, a fair amount of cash for expected and unexpected expenses, and my checks. The idea was to have everything in one box so I could pick it up and go in an emergency, but it's quite useful to have those things locked but accessible.
